William Patrick Hitler was born in Liverpool, England, in 1911. His father, Alois Hitler Jr., was the half-brother of Adolf Hitler. Alois Jr. had emigrated to England in 1909 to escape the poverty and anti-Semitism of Austria-Hungary. William's mother, Bridget Dowling, was an Irish Catholic.

William Patrick Hitler grew up in a working-class family. He was a good student and a talented athlete. In 1933, when Hitler came to power in Germany, William's family disowned him. They were ashamed of his connection to the Nazi dictator.

Undeterred, William Patrick Hitler decided to renounce his family and his heritage. In 1939, he immigrated to the United States and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was determined to fight against the Nazis and to prove that not all Germans were like his cousin.

William Patrick Hitler served with distinction in the Marine Corps. He fought in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. In 1945, he helped to liberate the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau.

After the war, William Patrick Hitler returned to the United States and became a successful businessman. He never married and had no children. He died in 1987 at the age of 76.

William Patrick Hitler's story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. He was a man who overcame adversity and prejudice to become a hero. His story is an inspiration to us all.
