Trausch was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he was influenced by the work of Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and other modernist artists.
In the 1920s, Trausch returned to Brazil and became a leading member of the Brazilian modernist movement. He was a founding member of the Grupo dos Cinco (Group of Five),a group of artists who sought to break away from the traditional academic style of art.
Trausch's work is characterized by its use of bold colors and geometric shapes. He often incorporated elements of Brazilian folk art into his work. His paintings often depict scenes of everyday life in Brazil, and they often contain social commentary on issues such as poverty, inequality, and racial discrimination.
